Description
A beautiful 16″ wooden wall cross with printed artwork, specifically of the San Damiano image.
The San Damiano Crucifix is a Romanesque painted crucifix that holds deep theological, spiritual, and historical significance, especially for the Franciscan Order. It is traditionally associated with the moment in 1206 when St. Francis of Assisi, praying before it in the Church of San Damiano near Assisi, was told by the crucified and risen Jesus: “Francis, don’t you see that my house is falling into ruin? Go then and restore it for me.” Francis initially thought “my house” referred to the crumbling church but later understood it as a call to restore the Church itself — his mystical body. Each image on the crucifix represents a time of Jesus on the cross.
The crucifix is a symbol of the Franciscan Mission to renew and rebuild the Church through repentance, faith, and service.
Measures approximately 16¾” L x 12¼” W x 1″ thick.
Made in Italy.
