In the Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the devotion referred to the heart of Jesus Christ, as a symbol of divine love. Devotion to the Sacred Heart had its origin in a mystical current centered on the person of Jesus Christ, who conceived the heart as a vital center and expression of his dedication and total love. In this sense, devotion to the Sacred Heart refers in particular to the feelings of Jesus, and especially his love for humanity.
The celebration of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a solemnity (1st class feast in the classification of Pope John XXIII) and is celebrated on the first Friday of each month. The entire month of June is dedicated to the Heart of Christ.
